The default RBRVS EZ-Fees folder is: C:\Program Files\RBRVS EZ-Fees 2011. This folder contains about 25 files and an optional \backup folder

 

The executable file, often referred to as the engine or compile, is rbrvs10.exe. . The main fee database is rbrvs.mdb. This file holds all the fee tables including your user defined fee/frequency schedules, GPCIs and conversion factor.

 

Prior to Windows 7 and Vista (Windows XP and 2000) RBRVS EZ-Fees updates (ie rbrvs_2011_update6.0.zip) overwrote the compile and database directly in the application folder. Microsoft introduced a new security feature (UAC) starting with Vista and Windows 7 that mirrors the application folder to a virtual store folder.

It is our opinion and the opinion of others howtogeek.com that this feature is not worth the hype and should be disabled.  If you are running UAC and need to update RBRVS EZ-Fees you need to download and unzip the update files directly to the virtual store folder. For instructions on how to disable UAC see below.  

 

How to Update RBRVS EZ-Fees using Windows 7/Vista with UAC on

1. Exit out of RBRVS EZ-Fees
2. Download the most current RBRVS Update zip file to a temp folder 
3. Unzip the content of the update file directly to the virtual folder.  You will need full administrative privileges for this. C:\users\username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\RBRVS EZ-Fees 2011 (where username is the login username).
4. You will be prompted with a warning that a file with the same name exists, do you wish to replace the old version with the new version. Select Yes for each of the files.
5. Then copy the RBRVS11.exe into the local application folder C:\Program Files\RBRVS EZ-Fees 2011.
6. Open RBRVS EZ-Fees and check the table status under Help - About to confirm the compile update and table dates.

Note:   Updating will delete all user defined fee information (S1-S5, Freq1-Freq5 and tags).  If you wish to save this information simply backup your tables to an Excel Spreadsheet using File-Backup.  After updating select File-Restore to retrieve.

Windows 7 / Vista - Disable UAC Virtual Store 

RBRVS EZ-Fees is Vista and Windows 7 compatible but we strongly recommend that you disable UAC (User Account Control) also known as the Virtual Store. This annoying feature is supposed to make your PC more secure but in our opinion it is not worth the hassle that you will experience with continuous flash screens (Vista) asking if you wish to open a file or perform a task. Just do a Google search on " UAC Windows 7" or "UAC Vista" and read what others are saying.
